Anger management therapy that makes a real difference.

Practical anger management

My name is Paul Allenby and I’m a specialist CBT anger management therapist for people who live and work in Luton and Dunstable.

I have helped upwards of 2500 clients during the 23 years providing my bespoke style of private anger management therapy.

My approach is practical

I can help you develop an understanding of your triggers but rather than just talk about them … we will work together to develop practical skills to be in much better control.

The therapy I provide is bespoke and very much focuses on the here and now without needlessly dwelling on the past.

Along with anger management counselling, personal  and bespoke marriage and relationship therapy is available utilising cognitive behavioural therapy, mindfulness and specialist coaching skills.

If you are looking for private anger management therapy that will be pro-active to meet your personal needs and desired outcomes of managing your anger effectively, please call me anytime.

Past clients who have benefited immensely from our practical approach to anger management include those who:

  • Easily lose their temper in frustrating situations.

  • Come across as annoyed when things don’t go their way.

  • Have a tendency to act defensively or “bite people’s head off.”

  • Criticise and judge others.

  • Act impatiently, frustrated and irritated when they don’t feel in control, heard or listened to.

  • Sulk or act “off” when they’re unhappy with someone.

  • Avoid people when they’re upset.

  • Act sarcastically or rude to people.
Paul works emphatically with his clients to create sustainable change.

General Q & A's

  • What are the goals of the therapy sessions?

Our goal, which is tried and tested, is to help you develop an awareness of your anger triggers.

You see, it's not actually anger that needs managing, its your reaction to the triggers where we will do our best work.

There are so many we could mention but here are the most popular triggers we have seen that people experience.

    • stress
    • irritation
    • frustration
    • anxiouseness
    • disappointment
    • expectations not being met
    • tenseness
    • feeling overwhelmed
    • not feeling heard or listened to

Our sessions will help you recognise which triggers relate to you.

You will be helped to better understand them from a mindfulness perspective and then develop effective tools that are bespoke to you to manage your rections in much more positive ways than you may currently experience.

  • How does it all start?

Your therapy with Paul starts with an initial phone chat. This informal chat will be to get an understanding of your needs from thrapy.

Paul will then help you understand how his therapy can meet your needs.

We will then discuss how the the therapy is delivered and then the costs.

The initial phone chat works in this way so you get a full understandig of the therapy being offered so you're able to make a full an informed decision if you'd like to go ahead with an initial consultation.

  • What happens in the initial consultation?

The initial consultation lasts for approximately 75 minutes and has many aims.

    • To start rapport building. Paul provides a friendly and relaxed approch to therapy and rapport is one of the important elements for us to have success working together.

    • During the initail consutation we will begin to talk about your triggers so Paul can get to know you and your needs. (this area is covered in the inital phone chat but we go much further in this session.)

    • Paul will demonstrating how he intends to work with you. He will outlay the therapeutic methods used and how they will work to meet your needs.

    • You may of course have questions and this time also gives the opportunity for you to ask questions and clarify therapeutic approaches whilst we talk together.

    • So many of Paul's clients state that even after this very first session they feel positive and hopeful of the road ahead - this is our goal here, to help you understand that we will be working together as a team to help you reach your goals.
  • What happens in our sessions together?

Every client and their needs differ and as so each session is bespoke to your unique circumstances.

To get a session started we will draw from your experiences since we last met.

As a general rule of thumb, our sessions will break individual experiences in to smaller understandable chunks so you create better understandings of your anger triggers and how you react to them.

We will discuss situations that have impacted on you and with a combination of CBT, mindfulness and coaching therapy, you will be helped develop effective understandings, coping mechanisms and practical ways to manage your anger triggers in more positive ways.

Our work is collaborative. What that means is Paul will roll his sleeves up and get in there with you.

He will demonstrate his real desire to help you - not just as a listening therapist but a therapist who has a vested interest in helping you make the changes you desire.

  • How many sessions will be required?

Unfortunately, this is not a question that can be accurately answered as every clients needs are different.

What we can say however, because of the nature of the direct and practical approach, meaningful change can start right from the very first session.

Each session we build on this and along with the free online mindfulness course, you will be developing a toolbox of skills that will begin to have a positive impact for you.

We start with an initial block of 6 sessions. We will evaluate all the way through these sessions how our work together is mapping out and at the end of that block of sessions we will take stock to establish your needs moving forwad.

  • What is the session availability?

Paul provides his therapy with flexibility in mind.

There are daytime, evening and weekend availability and Paul aims to be as flexible as he can with you to fit in with your work and family comittments.

  • How much does the therapy cost?

Every client and their needs differ so there is not a set fee to say, 'this is what it will cost you.'

This is why you are invited to call Paul for an informal chat so we can discuss your needs fro therapy and then you can be advised on the initial fees.

This phone call doesnt cost you anything but during the call you will get a full understanding on what I am able to provide you along with the fees

Armed with all the information you need, you will be able to make a much more informed decision on the value for money that you will receive from having your therapy with Paul.
